Do you house mechanical filtration? Why/why not?

I have a 55g w a ruby elite 30 sump.
So the question is do you run mechanical filtration? Why or why not?

I used to use filter socks but have opted to remove them since I forget to change em sometimes (oops) and causes more harm than good. I do have some sponges right before return pump to stop debris.

Overall I like how the system works without the socks.

What kind of filters you use if any? Socks? Filter pads?

I fun filter pads but only change them weekly. I suppose its main function for me is to polish the water up a little bit.

I will use a HOB filter like an Aqua Maxx type reactor and put filter floss in it. I am setting up a Avast you build reactor that is a stand alone type and put several coarse pad filters the type they use in a Fluval FX6. Then I am putting filter floss on top of that and putting some carbon or GFO on top of that.

I have a filter sock to help keep my sump cleaner, polish the fine particulate out of the water and it worksmas good method of nutrient removeal since I change it every 3 to 4 days.

I run a diatom filter in the sump twice a month to suck out the goop. I occasionally run it on the tank.

200 micron filter socks in a Reefer 450, changed or cleaned when they start to overflow, typically twice a week. They keep the non-fuge section and return section of the sump cleaner, and I don't particularly like cleaning out the sump. Still it's a pain to change fthe socks so often so I'm considering going to filter cups and floss where I could just remove and toss the old floss, add new, done. Bought the floss and cups but haven't done it yet because sometimes change is bad and right now everything is going well in that tank.

I run 0 mechanical filtration. I try to avoid anything that will stop the flow of pods and other microfauna in the tank.
