I've had fish tanks long enough now that when I hear a water trickling noise that's different from my usual filter flow I have to check immediately for leaks. I could be on the other side of the house and still hear something that sounds "off" and I have to investigate to ease my paranoia that somethings not leaking. Anybody else do this?

Absolutely.

I also pay special attention to my cats whenever they act weird around the tanks.

Right before this happened...

... This little one was giving the tank a very suspicious side-eye.

She normally ignored the tank (other than to occasionally lick dried salt off of the stand) so when she was acting like it was a monster, that warned me that something was about to happen. I went to get a bucket... and right as I got back with said bucket, it started leaking from the back left corner.

Since then, whenever she starts giving the tank funny looks, I'm always more than a bit paranoid. Thankfully, none of my subsequent tanks have actually leaked (structurally) but she has alerted me to a few non-structural leaks.

Yes, definitely. Different water noise ( or even any water noise) is a red flag in my house.

That's cool I wonder if she could hear the water seeping through.

Supposedly we all do. Something about surviving millennia of flash flooding as the glaciers receded....folks who weren't sensitive to water sounds got washed away.

I can't remember where I saw/heard/read this however....it wasn't recently. YMMV/grain of salt. :)

Not the same point, but check this out if you wanna have your cork popped:

You read the main title correctly.
