Does separating two tangs work for aggression

Yesterday night I put the purple and the white cheek back into my system from the sump and everyone e in my tank treated them like the new fish and actually put them in their place until they all figured out the chain of command again and the purple and white cheek totally disregard my Gem tang now which is awesome. As of this morning the initial aggression is down as expected and everyone is getting along now with just a couple seconds of chasing here and there!
