Does this parameters make you scratch your head?

Havent test test my sps tank for a while and decided to do some testing. I was surprised with the numbers so i took my water to get it tested at the LFS for a second thought.

Yes, that seems pretty surprising! How is your sps doing? No RTN or STN? I’ve never lowered my ALK below 7.0!

Yes your alk and ca are very low. Corals can adapt if the changed very slowly over time. I would very slowly raise both up. Rasing them quickly is likely to cause problems.

I have a geo 618 calcium reactor and i guess it still can keel up with the demand.

Ya I think the whole reef parameters at the accepted levels preached daily are a bit of a farce tbh. My best tank I rarely tested ever, on the tanks I tested often and chased the numbers to be within the “acceptable” range usually had issues frequently, especially sps.

My alk was 5 in this tank

Brought it back up 7 with a big water change

I’d say you are on the edge of the safe zone with not much wiggle room.

When i test mine was at 6 or 6.1. Im kinda dumb with the salifer kit. Firt time using it. Been using api for years

Very interesting, but not surprised at all :) I also don't really test, and have learned that immediate correction is a failure in the works. Believe it or not, your main minerals are all relative in concentration. With NO3 and PO4 specifically, I think more death occurs when trying to correct, a hard lesson learned, I tend to go with what my eyes tell me instead :)

If you ever test NSW it's around 6ish kh. My tanks stayed around 5-6kh for years when using ocean water for WCs, no ill effects to SPS or any corals. Only notable difference I can recall is the acros always stayed more pastel like you would see on a reef. That, and my zoas were the healthiest looking I've seen in a tank.

I sometimes let my alk get into the high 5s or low 6s before I turn my CaRx up to meet the demand of the growing stuff. Not the end of the world that most people think that it is. I do usually have the calcium around 360-400, though.
