Pretty basic question really but not sure on the answer I guess

Does a Dorso drain require a gate valve? If not would one installed be beneficial?

I recently purchased a drilled 75g and is setup for a Dorso drain. I'm going to buy the plumbing in a week or so when I get back to home Depot.

i would always advise to put a gate valve for sake of controlling the flow in the event you need more or less in regards to drainage.

You should never restrict your drain unless you have a backup drain (or other failsafe).

1) FYI, it’s Durso. Might make research easier. :grinning-squinting-face:
2) John K is correct in that you never want a restriction on a drain unless you have a backup. Restrictions can get clogged. Best to be safe and just do straight pipe.

I've only run single drain hobs so basically a durso. I run a gate valve to throttle my return pump output. But I have a large external pump on a basement sump that is OK to restrict. For an in sump return pump on a durso system in would recommend a DC pump to be able to control flow. I would not put a valve on a durso, as already mentioned.
