my tank has been fallow for about a month now due to an ich outbreak I could not contain. ive been doing 5ML of oceanmagik from algae barn for the last few weeks just to add some nutrients. ive noticed some cyanobacteria starting to form. could this be linked to me dosing phytoplankton?

also anything negative about doing phytoplankton? complete newb here so feel free to tell me im wrong about everything lol

With nothing consuming the nutrients your adding I would stop and increase tank flow while your waiting out the rest of your fallow period.

I’m running a fallow tank and also dose phyto. It doesn’t matter if fallow or not as fish aren’t going to eat the phyto. I only dose once a week. If you have filter feeders in your tank, they will consume the phyto. Pods, worms and various other inverts. I mostly dose because I’m not adding fish food very often because I want to feed the filter feeders and keep some nutrients in the water. I have shrimps and I’ll feed LRS frozen food maybe once or twice a week along with reef roids to help feed the corals.
