I have a red firefish in my 15 tall and am wondering if I could add a royal dotty back? I was wondering if there would be aggression between the two fish because of the similar body type. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ryan

Dottyback may wreak havoc on your firefish. No go imo.

I had to take out a dottyback because it tortured my firefish. I would agree, I wouldn't try it.

I read that ORA had a blue dottyback that was more peaceful. That may be worth looking into.

There is one small clownfish, and a super tiny(micro) watchman goby. It's my gf's tank, and she really loves the color of the dottyback, so she sorely wants to add it to the tank. Thanks for the replys. I think I will just have to tell her that it is a no go, and if she still wants one, I may get one and add it to my tank.

The dotty back will detroy all in the tank. I had one, but my clowns are super mean. He ended up taking the ride down to the sump. Then I found him, put him back in dt and the clowns killed him. But it was because he liked to play with fire. They are super aggressive.

The orchid dottyback is the most mild mannered and they can get a little aggressive. So i say no go either.

I think if you went with an orchid dotty it might be ok, but they would look so similar why bother. (I have had an orchid dotty in my tanks for 11 years best fish ever imo)

My old orchid (was in my 46 for 9 years) loved to play with out kitten. He would generally mind his own buisness but always came out for him.

Yeah but if it knew what that kitten wanted to do to it you might not have ever seen it again. But that is really cool. Lol

We are looking at the royal dotty back, very similar in color to a royal gramma, how similar is the orchid dottyback to a royal?

Its all magenta with a black line through its eye. A royal gramma may be best suited for your system actually!
