I have a giant in IDd sponge in my sump, I wish I could get a photo of it. I put a small part of it in my Max Nano when that was set up but that part has unfortunately died.

A rather bad photo of it but here it is! Unfortunately it’s covered in detritus but it’s colourless anyway.

A lot of cryptic songes are very sensitive to light so that may be why it didn't do well. Feeding may also be an issue as some feed almost exclusively off DOC realeased by corals and algae. You might try it again to see how it does.
