Researched for days and im fairly certain that it is safe to drill the back of the 120 marineland topfin aquarium. Does anyone have the same exact tank that is drilled? Only the bottom panel is tempered?
Easiest way to tell, take an LCD screen and shine a white background through the glass (use google.com) then look at it with polarized glasses. If it's tempered you will see color streams through out it at an ange. If I'm not mistaken all four sides are okay to drill but the bottom glass is tempered and will shatter if drilled. I personally have drilled all aqueon and Marineland size tanks from 20-75 gallons( about 80 tanks) on the sides for my store and not a single one broke. Not 100% sure on top fin tanks.
Also if it is tempered there should be a label or sticker on the bottom glass in orange if it's tempered. It will say "Do NOT drill, tempered glass." Aqueon 40 gallon breeders say "to avoid serious injury do not drill" but it's not tempered. It's just their warning label.
dang, missed that sale, back up to 4 something at 20% off. It comes with a stand but you can't use a sump with it. The stand comes with shelves. And you have to buy the whole set-up.
@miyags yea been trying to sell the stand now for the last 3 weeks. No takers. It's a point of sale made of pressed board. Going to be building a stand for it
@miyags I was going to do a ghost overflow or something similar but I'm too cheap. Going for the diy just a simple pvc surface skimmer overflow. Here's what i have on my 75.
Year later. You can barely see it. Clean install. Works perfectly fine
any chance i could see more pictures of that setup. what did you do for the surface skimmer? Im looking for something clean and simple to do with my 40g breeder.
