I think I’m going to try and make a hair algae siphon to try and clean up the majority of this mess.

Siphon tube with paint paint strainer bag on the exit side so I can recycle the water down to the sump. I’ll also have filter floss in before the return pump to catch finer particles.

I think I can use this technique to remove the bulk. Then I’ll try to acquire some local Chaeto and start skimming like mad. Hopefully knock the hair algae back pretty good.

Any other possibilities? Going to try and avoid chemical killers for now.

When I siphon my sand bed, I use a similar setup.

I clamp a huge filter sock to the wall of my sump, and then clamp my hose into the filter sock.

My only advice is watch the sock cause they fill up fast!

I just tried it out. Worked fantastic! Seriously got the majority of the algae before clogging. A few more gos and it’ll be looking great!

Just used my Live Aquaria gift certificate :)

1 Clownfish (Ocellaris/Percula hybrid)
1 Lawnmower Blenny
1 Court Jester Goby
1 Blue Tuxedo Urchin
2 Fighting Conchs

Only cost me $27 :D

Do you QT an Urchin? I suppose you probably should due to it having a hard surface for tomonts...
