Duncan Coral Recoverable?

Hello,

My duncan coral took a rough turn when the algae on my lid blocked uv light from getting to it for a couple weeks. Based off the looks is this frag recoverable? I fixed the lighting block issue and the tank has plenty of lighting. Zoanthids, xenia, and bubble coral are doing fine.

It's recoverable. Do have any images of the coral before? I never seen a Duncan like that. Are you sure it's not a Goniopora instead?

I'm fairly confident that's not a duncan.

How new is this tank? Sand/rocks all look really clean still, and there's quite a bit of inhabitants in there.

Have you been testing parameters?

Agreed not looking like a Duncan I have seen.
Also agreed looks like a fairly new tank.
Goni are a "difficult" coral without stable parameters.
What is your PH? You've got like..... four airstones in there?

@JTP424 that's my nicest one. I'm lucky to even have any. All the duncans in here are from a single head I was able to save a few years back from a large colony that got BJD.

My tank has been running since October and livestock was first added in December/January. The LFS told me it was a duncan, but upon further research it does resemble more the likes of a goniopora and I believe that's what it is. PH is 8.2

It has color, and therefore I think it is salvageable. I would just keep an eye on it, and continue to get tank parameters better, and stable.

Goni like a little more flow. They are probably a bit more finicky than Duncans.....

How much did you end up paying for it? Kinda crazy a lfs would mistake a Goni for a Duncan. Anyways, keep us updated on the progress of it!

Yea definitely gonis and not duncans. And yes they are recoverable. They can surprisingly stay like that for months. But you will see one by one die. I had a frag not extend for over a month then just out of the blue came out and happy. I'd give it some more flow.
