Hi All,

I'm looking for some advice on what to do with my Duncan Coral.

We moved house (and tank) about 10 weeks ago and ever since then the Duncan is refusing to open up. I redid the aquascape so it's in a completely new position about half way up the tank, getting decent flow and lighting.

About 1/3 of the heads are right at the surface but not coming out any further, the rest are fully withdrawn. Everything else about the coral seems fine, no flesh loss or anything.

Parameters all the usual. Rest of tank doing well.

Would you move it or just keep it where it is and hope it opens?

I mean besides them being retracted. They seem to look good. Got some nice green too on that flesh band.

I would say at that size. They are upset or adjusting.

Either flow or light is affecting them. Are they at the same height overall? If so we can rule out light.

If not you may want to see how much of a difference it is.

After that its just flow.

how does the position, flow and lighting compare to prior aquascape? I often see this sort of reaction with significant and sudden increases in flow or lighting.

Yeah it's probably a bit more exposed to both flow and light, but I wouldn't have thought it was significant. I also am pretty sure it's grown another 3 or 4 heads, even though it hasn't opened. Is that even possible?

Think it's fair that it's been left long enough and it'd be worth trying in a different position?

I known they can be funny especially when moved so don't want to restart the clock if not necessary.

They are a maybe 2 inches closer to the light and a little more exposed to the flow.

I do agree, bar retraction, everything looks really good. I even think it's had 3 or 4 new heads grow (but not open!) since the move.

Think it's worth a position change?

is everything else in the tank happy? If so, moving it to a lower light area might be worth a try. perhaps avoid securing it with permanent adhesive until you're sure it's happy

2 inches could be a bigger change in par. Either lower them or decrease intensity and slowly raise it back up over time.
