Durso standpipe setup

So I am new to the standpipe world. I've always used hang on overflows with flexible water lines.

Anyway, does the stand pipe get glued into the black bulk head, and same for return line? Does anything get glued or is everything just pressure fit for easy removal? Also how high or low do you adjust the stand pipe?

If it is in the tank then it can be press fit. If it it is out of the tank then it needs to be glued. Another way to think about it is if it come apart, where will the water go? If it will cause a problem, then it needs to be glued.

it's IN the tank, meaning not outside of the glass enclosure. the entire overflow chamber runs from the floor of the tank to the top lip of the tank, and the pipes install down in the bottom of the overflow that's inside the tank.

I wouldn’t glue them myself! This makes for cleaning down the road much simpler by just removing the pipes and letting it the overflow box drain into the sump and it’s wide open to clean or catch a fish that made its way into the overflow.

I understand. Based on your description and on a standard Durso setup, I would not glue them because there will be times that you need to remove them for cleaning, etc.
