Ebay bidding Technique

Soo, what is the purpose behind bidding on something before like an hour or so before the end of auction? I see people putting in bids with 3, 4 maybe 5 or more days left. This seems mildly idiotic to me.

I say alot of times the people that are bidding early are inside bumpers also........ :crossedlips:

I bid early just to see how high the last highest bid is and then I go from there.

Thats like flying a warning flag to someone that wants it.Also starts the competative human nature to covet.

some people don't have the time and will not be home to bid when it ends, so they just place their max bid in and go about their business. I do that sometimes also and hopefully come home to see that I won. But bidding a few days earlier does look like an inside job.

I will generally wait for the last couple minutes of the auction and then place a max bid and make sure I am watching it because usually the last minute is when the price starts going up and the bidding wars begin.

Thats what i would do as well, but by the time the end is near, the price is astronomical because of bidding wars that happened 4 days ago. prime example is the my miami chalice, two guys got in a bidding war with 6 days left, neither of them ended up with it, boosted it up over a thousand with 5 days left. If people had settled down, they would have won it for less and would have set the market price much lower.

Didn't know such a coral existed...

I just looked through some of the corals over there and many sellers use certain key words in the titles to be found through searches such as 'Tyree', 'chalice', 'rare', etc...

I have found that this is one of the main reasons for bidding early. When you will get a notification through email if you were out bid. Also, when you bid you will get a notification through email that the auction will be ending in a certain amount of time.

I use to purchase from ebay rather often and I always bid right away to help keep track of what I have interest in and to get the notifications so that I did not lose out.

part of the joy of ebay imo is the last minute battle. :)

I'm with Benny and a lot of others then, and bid early to keep me on track. But then I like to be winning early too for some reason. Then I can at least say to myself, "for a little while that was mine".
