Bertram bought ecotech. Not BRS. BRS is not the manufacturer. And the same concept can be applied to literally any brand led they sell. Not just ecotech
Right. I misspoke. Bertram owns BRS, Neptune, Marine Depot (merged with BRS and disappeared), Ecotech and Aquaillumination. That means Bertram is the manufacturer of Radions, AI and Sky LEDs, and is the owner of BRS, so BRS could very well be required to push primarily Bertram-owned products. BRS will ever have the level of independence they once had.

Lose the lunar lights and pick up more UV. Seems like a total waste of time for all involved.

Let's not turn this into a repeat of the Neptune SKY discussion. Honestly, I'm not sure what anyone was really expecting here.

If they make a larger light it's going to sell for more... and people gripe. If it isn't an equivalent G4>G5 upgrade... people gripe. If it has small improvements... people gripe. Basically, people gripe.

* The G6 lights will be priced the same as the G5 versions (and supposedly there's another sale on the G5s right around the corner).
* They have more UV/violet, some of the 'controversial' colors have been replaced and they have larger spread (up to 4' with an XR30).
* There's an upgrade path for G5 owners to convert to a G6 blue or pro (you're not fixed to blue or pro).
* Unit specs are the same, power use is the same and all attachments (including diffusers) work the same.

I don't drink the EcoTech kool-aid (maybe the occasional gargle), but I do like my G5 Radions and they are a very nice and effective LED.

I'm currently breaking down a few tanks for various reasons, and setting up a Red Sea S-1000, which will be my only tank. I'm already selling several of my Radion XR30 G5 and XR15 G5 lights, but I plan to keep enough for the S-1000 (unless I decide to go with ATI Stratons or Straton Pros). The S-1000 is roughly 83"x27"x26" and will be a predominately SPS mixed reef.

Ideally, I would prefer smaller and less lights due to aesthetics of a rimless tank. With the increased spread of the G6, would XR15s make more sense now, or would I still be looking at XR30s to prevent shadowing? I currently have (5) XR30 G5 Radions over my 900 3XL. Any chance 3 or 4 XR15 G6 Radions could cover the tank? Or maybe even 3 or 4 XR30 G6 Radions?

Still thinking of replacing the Radions altogether and going with Stratons. I wonder how the G6 compares to the Straton?
So I just heard back from Ecotech... they are recommending (2) XR30 G6 or (3) XR15 G6 Radions for a 83"x27"x26" predominantly SPS (acropora) mixed reef. That seems absolutely crazy! I am currently waiting for them to confirm the recommendation. I cannot believe that would be ideal... they said it would be "more than enough light."

That gets you committed to the system, then when you realize you truly need more, you’ll buy them

What do you would need for a 48x18 tank then?

4ft. That is terrible marketing. Same power, same LEDs, same size, but its going to double the footprint?

yeah we need to see that, and some spectrum/par readings
Definitely. Saying they easily cover 4 feet of tank with no problem is misleading. Simply changing the optics for better coverage doesn't multiply the total output. Physics is physics.
