Ed's bonsai - Nano in 90 thread

4g, you are a brave soul. I have always wanted to do something similar but can only imagine how difficult it could be . Good luck and let us know as you may end up inspiring more of us to take the plunge.

Alright, today is close to 100 degree. I decided to take a plunge and start the cycle. I also changed my mind to add some sand from my DT because I can't have my rock standing up. Even I tried, I am worry it might fell and crack the tank. This is what it looks like without sand.

Can I put snails in the tank as my cycling started? or this has to be done on June 15?

My tank has been cycled over 6 days. So far the mangroves started coming out with leaves. I added a single head dosing pump to add fresh water( may be Kalk in the future). My ebay LED arrived but I am kind of disappointed. The intensity is not that good. I might upgrade that to a single par 30 bulb if needed. This will be after I add the coral. I have not measure the water parameter yet and I try not to. Reason being only with 4 gallons, any change in external condition will change the water parameter quickly. I only rely on the mangroves and the live rock to perform all the filtering. With occassional water change, I believe this will keep most coral alive. My only concern is the heat, temp swing is the most I worry but I will see if the fan can keep the water temp to a minimal swing.

Looking good Ed!

Well, I was going to raise adult brine but it not worth the time and effort. The fatality rate was too high. This is just a cheap Marineland tank costed me 15 bucks :)

The cycling is going well so far. Because I am using natural sunlight, I have to be very careful on the amount of algae otherwise I had to close the blind a bit. So far the algae on the glass is not too bad. I clean that once a day or two. There are some red algae (non slimy) one on the rock which should be good food for the blenny in the future.

I also decide to add some sand in my "refugirum" chamber in my Aquaclear. This is before.

and this is after.

In additional, I decided to add a small powerhead with auto sweeping motion. This wil cover more area with flow than the Aquaclear itself.

Looking good and love the idea of the solar powered fan. How is it working for reducing the temp swings?

Here is my list of corals in my tank. All of them are transferred from my DT. I will put the market value to each.
- Green polyps Montipora
- Orange polyps Montipora
- Brown polyps Montipora
- Pumping Xenia
- Regular Zoos
- Green star polyps
- Purple gorgonia
- Yellow polys gorgonia
- Brown plate SPS
- 2 unknown SPS (brown)
- Galaxy

All are frags except the plate which is from my DT totally browned out and I try to see if diffent water parameter will bring out any life of it.
Fishes
- Swiss Guard Basselet
- Pacific Bule tang (xs size)

Lookin good Ed! Love the solar fan and can't wait to see some pics of your livestock...

Thanks Mike. I will take some pictures later. BTW, do we allow to take any livestock out of the tank to make room for others?
