I am considering using dry rock in my tank, but would prefer not to wait several weeks (or longer) for my tank to cycle. Are quick-start cycling products generally effective? Should I have any reservations about utilizing a product like this? Thank you very much!

They are perfectly fine and proven beyond a show of a doubt to work.

I have used that exact product to start all of my tanks.

Interested in this for my tank upgrade. Didn't see mentioned the specific product. Just heard of Aquvitro biospira available from BRS. Heard this product actually works very fast as in a couple days.

It hard to believe something can work that fast. With fresh rock, water, and sand there is a lot Bactria that is needed in a tank to be ready and I dont see how something could work that fast. The Red Sea 21 day thing is pretty fast its self.

API quick start, BioSpira, and Dr Tim’s all work In 5-7 day.

There is a thread on here where all of these and more were tested to see if they really work or don’t to finally put this question to bed.

I will try to find it and post the link, I Beloit was done by Dr Reef.

End result is that they work without a doubt as advertised.

I've used them and other things but don't start putting fish in that soon because I've never had full ammonia drop in 7 days and no sponge on dry live rock in 7 days either. I only go by what I've had work.

I use instant ocean and it cycled the tank within 1 week and was good for a pair of clownfish. The longer you wait the better but lets face it in the beginning 1 month feels like 6 months. after your tank is established 1 month feels like 2 days.

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/bacteria-in-a-bottle-myth-or-fact.403226/

post 3 he goes over his results and Fritz Turbo Start won every time.

That’s the thread I was try to find.

Thanks for linking it!

The most important takeaway I got was that bacteria in a bottle works and does what they are supposed to do.

But I already knew it cause I’ve done it a couple times.

And now we have solid proof that it does to avoid senseless arguments in the future!
