I have used Eheim filters for over 30 years , I loved the 2215 and 2217 series. I have several tanks ranging in size from 40 to 125 gallons. YES I have used them even on reef tanks, You just have to do regular maintenance. I tried media reactors but for the price of them I felt I just would go with more eheims, But heres the problem the quality is going down with the hoses and the canisters themselves! I recently bought replacement hoses and the longevity of the hoses do NOT SEEM TO LAST AS LONG, ALSO THE CANISTER SCREW ON devices LEAK ON TWO BRAND NEW 2215 models! I had to remove them and use Hose clamps. I NEVER EVER had this issue before, BUT I think the quality since OUT SOURCED TO CHINA IS GOING DOWN! HAS anyone else had a problem? I AM exasperated!

That's terrible if you can't trust them not to leak.

Eheim definitely seems to have lost their high quality standard since they moved production to China 15 years ago. They were the gold standard for like 20 years but that rep has gone downhill. Much harder to justify the extra expense now.

You'd almost have to set it down inside a 10-gallon glass tank in case it leaked while you were away-- then what's the point of a canister-- you're back essentially to a sump-and-a-pump.
