I thought it would be interesting to have a thread documenting failures of heaters with electronic thermostats. If you have had a failure please reply to the thread with the following information. For unknown information just annotate as such.
Manufacturer:
Model:
Watts:
Failure Mode: On/Off/Catastrophic
Mode of Control: Internal/External (Internal if the heater was being controlled by its own thermostat at the time of the failure, External if it was being controlled by an independent controller at the time of failure)
Control Band: +/- 0.0F (only if external control, otherwise N/A)
Heater Cycles per Hour: (only if external control, just average #, otherwise N/A)
Time in Use:
Date Manufactured:
Other pertinent information: (e.g. heater ran dry, power surge, etc.)
I’m not sure what kind of conclusions, if any, will be able to be drawn from the data but who knows. At the very least we will have data on in-service failures.
