Healthy elegance coral decided to close up and no idea why. It’s an Ausssie, not Indo.
Seems my nitrates are high (working on that now.)

I’ll stop dosing Alk since it’s higher than my target 9 (per WWC recommendation)

Iron is at 0, working on that but does that affect corals?

all my other corals are fine. Worried because I can see skeleton at edge (but may just be fully retracted.)

Only things that changed:

Iodine was low (0). So I dose 4 drops a week. (Per advice of Rod at Coral Bargain and Dre at WWC)

Also per WWC, 3ml x 3 days/wk to get it to 9 since Salifert seems to be off compared to Hanna.

Test results attached. I used Salifert.

Please tell me your Ammonia is actually 0 not 8.2! How long has it been closed and how long have you had it?

Mine is the size of a football. No offense but sounds like you are chasing parameters a little drifting away from the concept of stability.
Attaining good numbers is essential but sometimes at a cost. For me, its Moderate light and flow( without blasting it), salinity at 1.026 and temp of 78-79 deg that keeps my elegance nice and full.

alkalinity only went up from 8.5 to whatever it is now over the course of 3-4 weeks. However the temp is def swinging. Do you think that’s it? I’m ticked becauseI bought this Finnex heater and it was way off. Had to change it to 80 to get it to 77 (chiller is at 78). Now it’s barely at 76. Thought Finnex was a good brand?

I like finnex. Temp will affect salinity and PH but it is not at a crazy reading.
I wonder if youre getting False salinity reading??

I just tested it at the mix station. Same.
For piece of mind- grab a water sample and and have tested at a trusted LFS for comparison and verification. Any residues or other substances that may be in your containers for mixing station?

I did an ICP a while back and all was good minus tin/alum which was already handled.

Your temp is definitely on the low side. I’d raise it slowly to at least 77. I like to keep mine at 78 that way if I have a swing in either direction it’s still in the safe zone. But 79 works too. Just do not do anything quickly.

Do you have a refugium? The only thing I can see other than the temp is your Nitrates are high.

yes on the fuge. And chaeto keeps dying...I kicked up the light to 15 hours a day and I’ll start dosing iron
