Is it true the elite 200 and 220 have the same neck diameter?

It seems the difference is the cone height and base size along with a different varios pump, 4 vs 6.

With the above, it seems one could dial down the 220 to the 200 range if they adjusted water depth and pump power settings accordingly, correct? That, in theory, would match in bubble volume, neck diameter, air flow and water flow, right?

You are correct the Elite 200 and 220 b0th have the same neck diameter with the main difference being the body and the pump size. Also in theory you are correct that the 220 could possibly work on smaller aquariums to a point due to controllability and neck size. The clause in that is the amount of water the pump processes just to fill the skimmer to your desired setting. It may process too much water and could still cause inconsistencies. So I would still choose the skimmer within reason.
