Elos overflow safe?

I'm looking for new tank and really want a Reef Savvy with ghost overflow but that will take at least 6 months and cost small fortune in shipping. I can get an Elos 120xl from local store without the crappy sump and equipment for a good price considering how much elos tanks cost. They are beautiful tanks and sure they will last long but the overflow scares the bejesus out of me. I cant have any spillage on hardwood floors or the wife will kill me. The tank only has 1 drain and seems like it would be fine but the ghost will provide room for beananimal 3 drain design that I think is as good as it gets.

Anyone have elos tanks or knowledge of overflow designs etc. that can tell me if my fears with elos design is justified. Thanks for reading

don't have an elos, one drain is safe....your going to get water on your floor I can promise you that. won't be from over flow though.
doing water changes, put arm in tank, trying to multi task. all ways I have ended up with water on my floor unexpectedly. never have had a tank flood, that is rare if you have stuff set up correctly.

hate to say it, but you should probably just bit the bullet and wait!! sure, the ELOS system will work, and Im sure its pretty safe, but if you really want a savvy tank, NOTHING will compare! Ive been thinking bout it for a bit, and will not upgrade, unless its to a savvy tank. usually, you only do it once, so its worth the wait to get what you really want.

Elos tanks are amazing, nothing compares to their quality. The overflow is designed for slow flow... It's important to have contact time in your sump area. For water circulation you should use a gyre pump or Ecotech Marine pump.

This is how we have all our Elos tanks set up and the water quality couldn't be better. Absolutely love the Elos tanks

Elos tanks are amazing, nothing compares to their quality. The overflow is designed for slow flow... It's important to have contact time in your sump area. For water circulation you should use a gyre pump or Ecotech Marine pump.

pretty sure ReefSavvy will "compare" to the quality of ELOS. I actually think it will surpass the elos, but thats just my .02

I have a ELOS 120XL and the overflow design is perfectly safe and efficient. It is very quiet and does what it is suppose to do. The higher overflow design is best as it does not load any tension on the integrity of the tank. I also have wood floors. Never had an issue.

Since I have a Elos, I will not be biased and say to not get the ReefSavvy. That is also a nice tank.

As for the "crappy sump", why do you say that? Are you one of those guys that believe a massive sump means better this and better that? I've been there and done that before with a 75g sump. I can tell you the benefits I've noticed are almost minimal besides adding more water volume. I use that "crappy" sump and its very ideal. I have room under my tank to add reactors, CO2 scrubbers, etc. etc. IMO, having stable water parameters is way more important than having a bulky sump. Sure, you can pay $500-800 dollars on a sump that works great and glows, but a sump is a sump. As long as you have good sectors, and its efficient - that is all that matters.

Elos here too with the same crappy sump. No problems so far.

But I will say if I ever upgrade it will be to a reed savvy tank with coast to coast bean animal.

Acruelly I might change that. One of my friends hired a local builder who built him a tank with ghost overflow.

I have to say the quality is nice just like my Elos and cost him half of reef savvy tanks.

So I might go with a local builder and buy the ghost overflow to save time and money.

I never had a RODI reservoir before and was manually adding water before this tank. Now it is simple. I add RODI once a week and am done with it. Plus the Elos ATO system works great as well.

Here is a picture OP of my sump. I actually went against the normal configuration and placed my sump on the opposing side of the overflow. I did this because I wanted to add slightly more water volume and I wanted to upgrade most of that "vacuum" hose Elos uses with PVC.

I am trying to decide between the two as well. I had a Mini before and no spills. For my next bigger tank, I would prefer a "safer" solution though.

Also, have you considered a combination of the two? (Elos tank with no overflow, then drill for a Ghost)

That new Elos overflow looks nice, controllable DC pump. I assume at a higher MSRP though.

WOW very nice tanks!!! Sorry if I offended with the crappy sump comment. I think the sump is too small for size of tank and my desire for a fuge and larger skimmer, reactors etc. I really like the massive surface skimming you get with the ghost along with the beanimal it just seems like a better design. The quiet drain looks cool but cant find any info online about release date. I did find a local tank builder and may have him build it. He is highly regarded on the local forum. Thank you all for your input it is much appreciated :)

Both of those companies make killer tanks; I would be happy with either one. Six months though... I would go with Elos.

ReefMadScientist- what fittings did you use to convert from the vacuum hose to PVC? Trying to do the same but the vacuum hose appears to be metric so converting to 1.25" PVC is troubling?
