EMERGENCY; Seam Leak Last Night

Had a Seam leak in the Top Left Hand Corner. Now I think it is working its way down. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. I already Siliconed the Leak but again I think its just working its way down

I’ve seen people ratchet strap the tank temporarily, but sounds like the best is to get some giant rubbermaids and transfer everything to get the tank empty and get it either resealed properly or obtain a new one. Is it under warranty?

I agree with the ratchet strap as a temporary help, though I think you may need to be looking for a new tank, unfortunately. As mentioned, find some larger reef-safe containers like Rubbermaid bins or stock tanks from your local farm and garden store. Be prepared to temporarily house the livestock while you do a tank swap.

Go grab some large totes or troughs and start transferring. Silicone won’t bond to old silicone. Only way to fix it is total tear down, rip it all apart, and reassemble.

Also want to add on, the silicone on the inside corners isn’t structural. Covering this will not add any strength to protect from the force of water being contained. The structural silicone is on the “face of the panes edge”. This can only be repaired as Rtparty stated. Complete tear down, complete removal, and then redone and allowed to cure.

I suggest long pipe clamps while you get bins and holding containers or a new tank. Home Depot makes hdx bins (yellow lid) that are strong, inexpensive, and easy to get quickly.

So sorry you are dealing with this. I have a CDA tank as well. How old and what size do you have? Armored seams? You’re not the first CDA tank on here with a leak issue.

I could not verify but in a thread on here from a little while back someone suggested that Planet Aquariums was handling their warranty issues since they’ve gone out of business.

I have 180 gallon large trough that I used for the tank transfer last week so I’ll just set that up. I’m gonna go and set clamps on it right now. I’m also gonna try flex tape.

Yes it was a 2017-2018 talked with about ten people with the same tank and same problem I would stay away

Man that sucks. I'm really sorry. So many people having problems with glass tanks.
This is why I went acrylic. I didn't want to deal with this.

Maybe you can find a nice used acrylic tank that wont do this to you again?

Not to keep you up at night but acrylic usually just explodes when they break. Usually with a very loud POP! Nighty night.

The More I have Post and Talked with other Reefers I have Found out about a ton of Leaks. Sad, Maybe this is why they are no longer in Business.
