Encrusting monti going rogue

This is a mystic sunset monti (encrusting). It’s curiously growing in an almost plating fashion on the left and front edges. Just curious if this is common? I suppose it gives me an easy way to frag it if needed.

Maybe the flow or the way light may reflect off the glass .

Not unusual When they run out of rock...mine do the same which you mentioned makes it easier to frag

I quit putting monti's in my tank for this reason. They're like giant aiptasia for me.

Although I'm a sucker for that Neon lime green one. Gets me every time I see it.
