Wow, I am running out of room in my tank cabinet. Yes, I have a few ideas to make things more.... orderly In there. That’s not it... smh.

There are only so many square inches in there? When I was super new to this forum, I kept seeing people have “fish rooms”... yeah... rooms! .... really? Yeah, now I get it. Lol. I have already taken over half of my laundry room.

When do I stop buying toys? When I run out of room? ... or when I run out of money? ...this should be fun : )

If you run out of room you get a bigger place to keep your stuff. If you run out of money you earn more!!!

My DT is in the living room with sump underneath. My fishroom is in the basement with a 60g frag tank, utility sink, rodi and storage barrels as well as shelving that holds all the boxes of "spare" parts. The FR total size is ~ 15x30 but also stores the XMAS stuff and some other stuff, along with the furnace and hot water tank. My wife thinks it's a storeroom that I have a little fish stuff in. FOOLED HER!!!!

To keep her distracted from what's really going on, when I finished the basement she got a craft room that is ~18x35 with a walk in closet for her extra stuff. Happy wife, Happy life!

Poke holes in the floor and put it all in the basement.

I have ATO, kalk doser, mixing station and RO/DI all in the basement. I have yet to plumb a line to the sump for ease of WC but I could. This is all just for a 29 gallon DT.

Sounds chaotic and stressful. As to when you stop buying I know the answer not. Sorry. However, I can say that it isn't about the number of toys or items but rather how they work together to support your system. One of the biggest offenders right now are the power bricks for the various lighting and pumps. New and unique things are being built to address this - Hydros for example - and new lighting - phillips / coral view.

Other than that keep it simple. That is the path I'm following to reduce clutter and maintenance in the long run. It may mean a few changes here or there but it seems to be the best path "for me". Best of luck on your journey!!!!!

I agree with @fish farmer, drill holes in he floor and plumb stuff into the basement. Or do like I did and drill holes in your furnace cold air return, and run the plumbing in the basement. Then you have much fewer limitations, and the equipment can get really big. 48” skimmer, 36” UV, 150 gallon sump.... the limit becomes your budget, not space.

As soon as I add a basement to my house, I’ll consider that an option! Lol Yeah, we don’t have basements here in Texas lol

Well then it seems your only option is to drill holes through the wall behind the fish tank. That former bedroom now becomes the fish room!

The longer I am on this forum, the more I started noticing how people had more going on “under” their tanks than they had going on inside the tank. Realizing that was kind of a wake up call. I’ve been playing catch up since. I am working towards an SPS dominant tank. My tank is 200 gallons and is now 5 months old. So, I’ve been letting the tank mature while I make a few equipment improvements.

I think I have everything I need under the cabinet now. ....I need to improve my flow and add a couple of lights. I have not decided on setting up a refugium yet. If I do, I’ll almost have to put it in my laundry room. : )
