I was thinking about designing something simple like this:

But with a "sand" base that twists in easily without disturbing the sand bed as much.

I remember Frank mentioning that a while back.
This was almost exactly one year ago. So, I wouldn't doubt it is still present. But I hope they got it under control.

That design might be pretty nice. Let us know how it works out. IF the lfs still has the one clam. I MIGHT grab it. But, I still got that feeling s/he'll make for a nice taste cbb/wrasse snack.

I'm worried it's the wrasse or Foxface that's knocking it around but the mantle doesn't look damaged.

Quick and dirty design. Printing now. It's smallish - 2.5" tall, 2" diameter. Cradle is only about 2" long. Might be too big for my Derasa. One other problem I foresee is the potential that it's too smooth if a surface - nothing for the clam to hold?

how about rubble, sand, well... Inside of clam shells is very smooth I think?

But, superglue gel and a tad bit of rubble if you want to rough it up? Or some epoxy with random markings to rough it up. I used my nails to make a bunch of random patterns for my acro epoxy. They don't seen to want to encrust smooth surfaces as much. So, just some random ideas. You might think of much better.

Yeah, I was thinking sand and super glue.

I think if I redesign, the base will be a bigger diameter.

I've also got some ideas for how to "rough up" the inside for some grip ability.

Yeah, redesign will have a deeper "V" cup , stronger cross bracing in the base, and maybe add another 15-20mm diameter to the base.

Also, probably half the width on the walls and, if I hadn't run out of super glue I'd have done the top rim with sand, not just the inside of the cradle.

at that point, any bowl works. Or those lil kids food cups.

I know stoney deals with covers for ahh those wave makers and they are great.

You can now customize clam cups. Of course once you get it all dialed in.

I think tomorrow I'm going to quick and dirty design and print a "clam cage" that goes over the cup. We'll see how it goes.

If you can make your own to personalize one for your clam. It would be easier and less stressful for the critter. Having to make multiple adjustments, I am sure already causes issues. I also wonder if the clam disease is taken care of.

There were several people talking about clams having an illness which was causing them to die over a few months span. The vendors said nothing about it.
I had three all die within a 2 week window, which made little sense at the time since the entire reef was growing like mad. First was an ASD derasa, then an ASD hippopus, and that overlapped with a new clammania crocea. I think the derasa and possibly hippopus came into the tank diseased and passed it to the crocea. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Id keep away from asd. Unless making a quarantine. Their animals have multiple health issue reports.

No longer on my list. Got a lot of corals from them back in the day, but things started changing.

Once I have my phyto/food doser running I'll be getting a mandarin and a clam from Biota and see how they do.

I'm not convinced that the clam is going to make it. :disappointed-face:

It's mantle looks ok but the mouth is gaping and there's no more white rim on the shell.

Yeah, not looking good this morning. The mantle appears to be disconnecting from the shell. I think it's gone. Oh well. It sucks to lose it for sure. At least if I decide to try again in the future, I have a stand and cage for it so it shouldn't get knocked around so much.

Question: do I remove it or leave it and hope for an unlikely recovery?
probably take it out and give it a smell test too. It's probably done for. Once the skin separates from the shell. I never seen a case of that reverse, Might want to ask @Miami Reef

It’s too far gone.

Phyto isn’t necessary for healthy clams IME. It’s only a supplement.

Are the lights strong enough?

In my experience, clams that repeatedly get knocked down quickly die. They need to be kept as stationary as possible, especially initially.

Do you ever see parts of the mantle creasing or folding in?
