I'm telling you - It's by far my favorite tank that I've ever owned! The corners are black silicone, but they're also all covered in something like glass, which prevents blade scrapers from damaging the silicone. A couple of things that I've done to sort of improve the setup - I swapped to the Reef Octopus 110SSS, which only has a 9"x7" footprint. It leaves a ton of room in the middle chamber of the sump. Another thing that I did was change the socks out for OhMyPuff Media Cups. I put bio balls on the bottom and 3x floss sheets on top. I can run carbon on the bottom, as needed. I also love how there is an actual separator between the sump and the spot for electronics, which keeps them dry and clean.
The only thing that I changed, which I'd think they *should* incorporate - union fittings above where the drains attach to the sump AND on the horizontal piping. If definitely allows for easier install and sump removal (as needed).
I'd still rate the setup a 9.75 out of 10.

Here's a couple of progress pics. The first was taken without the orange filter thing and the second one with the filter. I'll take pics of the sump in a few days. I want to get some cable management done down there, as it's currently a mess! I built the rockscape with marco dry rock. Most of it has been cycling, with the gravel, in a 35-gallon tote, in my guest bathroom. It's been there for like 2 months. It's been filled for a week and the ammonia has already dropped to zero, so the preparation worked pretty well. Current residents are only 8 hermits. I fed them some frozen mysis shrimp today and they went nuts! More to come...

Looking at purchasing one myself. Following the journey!

Got my PAR Readings all settled in. The orange filter makes it look very not-blue. It's plenty blue!
Now I'm wondering how hard I can actually blast SPS on the top. Giving it an extra month or two, in order to settle in on the readings, but with that gyre on the top-right, it pushes a lot of water. I even have it on it's lowest setting of 30%.
I also added Pink Diamond Zoas, Hawaiian Ding Dang Zoas, Magician Zoas, a couple hammers and a Rainbow Yuma Mushroom. I'll have to get some pics of them over the weekend.

Thanks! It’s still a work in progress. I can’t wait until it’s been stable long enough for some acros at the top!

I'm loving that fuge light you have!

Thanks! Talk about a perfect scenario - I ordered a 7x7x7 fuge cage off Etsy. It literally couldn't be 1/8" wider or it wouldn't fit. Then with the addition of the media baskets, instead of filter socks, there isn't 1/4" clearance from the bottom of the front media basket & the fuge basket. Nano pump in there blowing sideways across it.

@yelkram
Wondering if you have any updates on your tank? Im looking to order mine soon. Are you still happy with yours?

Also you mentioned that you replaced the 2 original filter socks with "OhMyPuff" media cups. What size did you go with? 4 or 6 Inch Deep?

I honestly couldn't be happier with the decision on going with the Mariner M70! It's been fantastic! I've added some things here and there, but the standard setup is incredibly sound.
I used the 4" cups for a few reasons. The first one was that there's not a ton of room in the sump. It's not a problem, it's just the footprint. I like that most of the electronics are pretty separated from the water flow. The 4" allows for room for things underneath. Take a look at the pic. I have a 7x7x7 fuge basket in there, which works great. I also put Polyp Lab Genesis Rocks under the one closest to the return lines. High flow and these things have a ton of surface area. Check them out. They don't disintegrate like the bio balls do. I have balls under the floss, in the cups, just for the first four months. I also have them in the return section of the pump. The alk is almost stable enough that I'm going to pull them. Dry rock sucks up a ton for the first several months.
Shoot me a PM if you have any questions. I'm open to answering anything.

Almost forgot - I'd HIGHLY recommend getting the Eshopps ATO Reservoir. It fits perfectly in that compartment on the right side! Additionally, the Reef Octo 110SSS has such a tiny footprint and works like a champ with the system.

Please do! Send me a PM if you start a thread. I'm serious when I say that you can reach out about any questions you have about setup/flow/gear/etc.
