I agree 100%, this is not the place for comments like that. @philosophile let's try to keep this positive and a real teaching moment instead of ridiculing. He may have bought this system already set up and had it for a month. Honest mistakes happen, everyone messes up there are better ways to teach and learn.

I agree with you to an extent but can’t really fault him for scolding someone who just killed a bunch of animals through sheer negligence. That’s not ok in the slightest and he deserves to hear it.
That being said of course we should offer our support to deal with the situation.

OP, my guess is that you listened to and blindly trusted your LFS that the sea apple was a suitable inhabitant in a reef tank, please please don’t do that. I can’t tell you how often I’ve heard the most ridiculous things being said by LFS employees.
If you ever see something that looks cool and you don’t recognize it, take 10-15min to browse the web about that particular species, it will save you a lot of heartache in the future.

I believe was removed and Insults can be kept to yourself. We are R2R because we enjoy reefing together and help each other out. We learn from mistakes and this person by now has a better insight as to do's and Donts

The cucumber may be a month old, unfortunately there are posts about him still cycling the tank in April, so the whole setup is only a month or so running also.

It's a tough lesson to learn, and while some other opinions were indelicately expressed, I mostly agree. Nothing happens fast in a reef except the bad stuff. Slow down, research, and don't ever buy animals of any kind on impulse.

Start again, have a plan, maybe start yourself a livestock planning thread with species you like while you get some water changes done and recompose yourself :)

It was the insides of the cucumber.

I have never seen guts from a sea apple look like that (though images are hard to find!), and don't think that the stuff in pic of the end of the apple look like the stuff on the pump. YMMV.

The thing on the powerhead is probably the cucumbers insides. There is also some more laying around the tank. I can agree that getting the cucumber was a big mistake. However after talking to my LFS before buying it they convinced me its quite easy to keep and should be fine in my tank(probably just trying to make money).
But I was still caring about it a lot and have no idea what it all happened so quick.
Is some water changes and waiting a while gonna be enough to start again?

I am sorry that there are stores that do this and that you got caught up in it. Always do a quick internet search to get a general consensus on animals you don't know about, or even better, a long internet search while not at the store! :D

Large water changes, the bigger the better, and running carbon will help. IIRC the toxin also breaks down relatively quickly, but I can't find the reference offhand.

Cheer up Chris. We all make mistakes. Don’t let this bump deter you creating a beautiful living art in your living room.

Some things just are not meant to be in our aquariums .....yet. Maybe when science and technology catches up we can. Until then research and research some more before putting anything in our tanks.

There is countless threads of people putting things in their tanks that shouldn’t...and they often regret they did.

Then.... there’s those that go against the conventional and sometimes they succeed, and sometimes not. But leave that for those that is willing to take that risk

Sad sad story. You’ll find all the help you need here. Not from me. I have no clue. Just wanted to chime in w support. I had 8 fish die within a week because I didn’t quarantine my 9th fish and it brought in Ich. We live and learn. Try again and definitely research each new purchase beforehand. Man, that's a real bummer! Sorry that happened. I agree with what some of the others said. Don't get discouraged. Clean the tank out. Make some new water and run some good carbon. Things happen man. Saltwater takes a lot of patience. Never be afraid to ask questions. The vast majority of us are here to help. I believe one users comments were a bit uncalled for. We as a good reefing community share knowledge and ask each questions all the time. You can learn a lot here. If you are new to the hobby look I to brstv 52 weeks of reefing videos. They can help you understand a lot of different things that go on with a reef tank. Also check out this link. It will also give you a great starting point.

I know enough to get myself into trouble. Lol! Thanks for the kind words. I learned the hard way when I first started because I was impatient. Now I'm older and take my time. There is still plenty of things that I could learn. Just having that basic knowledge under your belt is a big plus. I'm in the middle of a 280 gallon build right now. I'm taking my sweet time. I dont care if it takes another year before water gets in the tank. I want it to succeed from the start.
