Feeding coral to a chocolate chip starfish

I have a CC star in my bare bottom sump. I know they will eat coral but is it nutritious enough to keep them alive? I have a 20 gallon RBTA tank with an overgrowth of Xenia. Can I put rocks of Xenia in the sump for it to eat?

He will probably eat the coral,but you can also try feeding him some shrimp.I heard they eat

I knew the shrimp too but I was thinking about what would also be easiest on my water quality. Something live would be easier for me than checking for decaying leftover foods.

If so then go with the coral.

I just fed mine a shrimp a couple times a week.

Reworded the title a bit.

I know they will eat shrimp (or really whatever you feed it). My question is if the Xenia is nutritious enough to sustain the starfish.

Mine hasn't touched the xenia. It's likely getting small pieces of fish food that go down the overflow. I have whelks that breed in my tank and end up in the sump. Maybe it will eat those too.

Shrimp us all I ever give mine. It's fat and happy.

I've never fed mine, it has taking a few small coral over time but 3 frags in over 3 years and it's bigger than my hand
