Feeling discouraged...again

So issues with the house were already going to delay the big tank (a behemoth) so I had decided to go small to start. Well I was shopping for a 65g to 100g ish tank and equipment and then got confirmation none of the outlets in my house are grounded.

Aquariums + non-grounded outlets seem like a bad idea so now even the small tank is off the drawing board for a while.

Hope y'alls tanks are rocking b/c I am living vicariously through your photos at the moment.

That's a bummer. Is this a older home? There's some older homes here that don't have grounds and aluminum wiring.

Definitely don't want aluminum wire. Not that hard to ground one outlet or two for the tank. It's the safer approach anyways

Built in the 40s. Panel was upgraded at some point "recently" but not sure about the wire. I haven't been in it yet. I was planning on upgrading to a 200amp panel anyway but hadn't planned on rewiring everything.

I think all you need is a ground wire to the nearest copper water pipe.
But I would pull new electric line with a ground from the panel to the tank.
electricians have some pretty cool tools for this kind of situation. @Brew12 what do you think?

lol my house is/was a fixer up had to wait 3 years before i could tackle the electrical 13 grand but not before i had to uproot my front and back yard to replace the old plumbing than the roof. patience you will get there

There is a potential water issue that is going to mean at least extending the overhangs and new gutters. Trying to be patient and not get overwhelmed but dang!

I would just point out that GFCI's can still work without a ground wire installed. It isn't ideal, but it can be safe. GFCI receptacles come with a little sticker you are supposed to put on them if you install one on a circuit without a ground.
Otherwise, driving a ground rod isn't too expensive and depending on the layout of the house it may not be too hard to ground the outlets near the tank. Especially if you have a basement or crawl space.
