Fibrous growth on torch skeleton

I just noticed this fibrous growth at the base of my torch coral. I have only had it a couple months and it hasn’t shown much growth but this seems to have appeared quite suddenly just in the last week. It has the consistency of fiber glass insulation and isn’t sticky or stringy.

I took the coral out and dipped and scrubbed the material off. It came off very easily and the skeleton area where it was seems to have been eroded a bit. I did not notice any actual hitchhikers in the bowl after the dip but I’m keeping the coral in my QT for now for observation.
Any ideas what this is?

Looks to be a sponge of some sort. I would try slathering some H2O2 on the affected areas to help rid yourself of what might not have come off from scrubbing and check back with us. There are some coral boring sponges out there but I have never seen it in any other color other than red, orange, and yellow. Better to be safe than sorry.
