Want to start a conversation on filter-feeding fish in aquariums. Searches on google had nothing pop-up, and I was curious why they aren't kept more often, or at least talked more widely about. Is it something with their care, feeding or temperature-wise?

I'm going to define filter-feeding fish as one that extracts at least 25% of its food from the water.

Off the top of my mind, I can't think of a single one. A list of fish that might be filter-feeders would be appreciated.

Filter feeding fish? I can't think of one. Even slow eaters like sea horses are harder to keep (lack of ability to chase down food). I con only think of big animals like a whale (not a fish) that filter feed shrimp or krill out of the water. And for my money, that's still eating. I don't know of any fish that get nutrients from the water (but then I'm far from an expert).

The only 2 that come to mind are basking sharks and paddlefish (couple species of those).
