Is frogspawn really that difficult?

I’m pretty sure mine end up touching, the frog spawn is tucked under the hammers and at peak time they all look like they’re touching this video they’re not but

I would say neither are difficult but a torch is harder than a frogspawn. So if your torch is doing well you should have no problem with a frogspawn.

Do you not have issues with them touching? I was told torches don’t even like their own brethren lol (hammers and frogspawn)

Frogspawns have been reclassified as Fimbriaphyllia paradivisa(branching) or divisa(wall)

Hammers are now Fimbriaphyllia paraancora(branching) and Fimbriaphyllia Ancora (wall)

The only true Euphyllia now are the torch corals Euphyllia Glabrescens.

Fimbriaphyllia and Euphylia all grow similarly and have similar care requirements but they are not all Euphyllia. Most Fimbriaphyllia can coexist together without causing harm to one another. Euphylia on the other hand will usually kill all Fimbriaphyllia that they touch.

These are awesome!!!! Can I ask how old? I’m starting to realize both the potential for coral growth but also the patience lol when you’re about two to three years in and you get to see an eight year old tank like the one I got the acro in I just posted, I would post a pic but I’m pretty sure you’ve seen it and won’t kill me to not post every picture I take lol

If you say so here it goes from hammers to this beaut I’m lucky enough to inherit into my care!

And how it made it home luckily I had the little aquarium with and was pulling over to splash water on an almost hour ride home!

I keep all of the above in the same tank together as long as the torches don't touch the hammers and octos/frogs they all seem ok. I have found torches with tentacles stuck in the mouths of octos and hammers and they will do some damage.

If I separate the corals fast enough the victim usually will recover in a week or 2. If I don't catch it in time the Fimbriaphyllia will lose a head.

Last time I went to the reef store the lady talked me out of what I really wanted which was some frogspawn, saying it was hard to care for. Instead she said a torch was easier so that’s what I got. My torch is very healthy and happy and seems like an easy coral…but I really still want the frogspawn

Are they really that hard? I just love the bubbly look and fluorescent dots.

Otherwise I was thinking bubble tip anemone since it sort of has a similar look but I know that would potentially wander around the tank. Plus it’s totally different, not stony. Idk

Frogspawn are easier than torches imo. You can charge more for a torch though ;) My frogspawn grow faster than my hammers and torches. I love the look of them too! My sexy shrimp took up residence in one of them and it’s very cool to look at.

Your torch will want moderate high random flow and the frogspawn medium flow, enough that they jiggle.

I have sexy shrimp too. Currently they reside on the rock flower anemone

If your torch is healthy and doing well, I wouldn’t be too scared of trying a frogspawn. They’re not exactly beginner-proof, but I wouldn’t call them extremely difficult either. Stable alk, calcium, magnesium and decent moderate flow/light go a long way. I’d actually be more cautious with the BTA since it can move around the tank and sting other corals

In my experience, torch coral is way easier than frogspawn. You can feed torch corals with small cut-up shrimp or other raw seafood. Makes them healthy and chunky. Just more options for Torch in terms of nutrient intake. Try torch and then move on to frogspawn. Got to try them all
