Is frogspawn really that difficult?

Last time I went to the reef store the lady talked me out of what I really wanted which was some frogspawn, saying it was hard to care for. Instead she said a torch was easier so that’s what I got. My torch is very healthy and happy and seems like an easy coral…but I really still want the frogspawn

Are they really that hard? I just love the bubbly look and fluorescent dots.

Otherwise I was thinking bubble tip anemone since it sort of has a similar look but I know that would potentially wander around the tank. Plus it’s totally different, not stony. Idk

I wouldn’t say frogspawn is difficult. But just like any coral it requires keeping parameters stable. The only reason to recommend a torch over the frogspawn is maybe if one was aquacultured vs mariculture or wild collected. A newer reefer would likely be more successful with a aquacultured coral.

I would say neither are difficult but a torch is harder than a frogspawn. So if your torch is doing well you should have no problem with a frogspawn.

I’m sure the torch was more expensive, I wouldn’t take advice from your lfs.

I’m starting to realize both the potential for coral growth but also the patience lol when you’re about two to three years in and you get to see an eight year old tank like the one I got the acro in I just posted, I would post a pic but I’m pretty sure you’ve seen it and won’t kill me to not post every picture I take lol

Some are almost 5 years old but I upgraded in January so a lot were added this year.

What she said was that the frogspawn is more sensitive to parameters (so needs to be even more stable than for torches according to her). I haven’t had problems with stability but the tank is new which is why she probably said that (a little over 2 months BUT I started with all live rock and live sand so it cycled very quickly).

I already have a small Favia colony, rock flower anemone, birds nest (Seriatopora), Cyphastrea, Stylo, Paly’s, Monti cap, and the torch which have all been there a month or more so I feel like since everything is doing so well why can’t I have the frogspawn? But I wanted to get feedback here first.

Get a frogspawn! You are good to go.

Torches are fine with torches but not frogspawn or hammers. Frogspawn and hammers are fine together.

Don’t ask me lol I’m pretty sure they all end up touching at some point but maybe I’m just playing with fire…

That purple green favia is a nasty guy and got my little red Acan there probably would’ve got trumpet but I gave it away
