I have been cleaning my filter socks by hand. I have just been rinsing them in the sink and using the spray nozzle on the sink to blast them. They do come clean but I am wondering if there is a better way. I don't want to put them in the washing machine do to ant left over detergents in the washer.i have three socks that I have been rotating out.

How do you deal with the insane amount of particles?

My lagoon with filter sock is spot clean, floating fish.

My cube is like a dust storm. Not really but still
I don’t have any particles

Has anybody used a microscope to determine what they are?

I'm assuming with skimmer?
Me?

I want everything larger than a molecule out if my tank

If I could find filters of 10 microns down, say, I would use them(if they hypothetically worked)

I just installed the roller on the 170. Doing well, but I think it's a 200 micron filter. Left the sock in place until the cup gets to me

And instead of filling up in 1 day, it's 2 days

I Have Aquatic Experts 200 Micron, enough for three change out. Each time I change them, I spray them off in the Laundry Sink, with a short piece of hose, doing both sides twice. Soak them in a Dish Pan with Hot Water and Clorox, overnight. Spray them off again and hang them to dry on a Clothes Hanger with Plastic Clothes pins, over the sink. Next day they go in the Cabinets, for another change. BTW, I put plastic Grommets in all my Socks, for a Pod escape route. This also makes them easier to clean.

What are these “particles” and why do you have them?

I just looked at my tank. I don’t run socks or floss or sponge or any mechanical media. I don’t run a skimmer and I don’t do water changes. I don’t have particles in my water. I’ve heard people mention it, people have asked me how I get pics without particles, I never really thought about it. I don’t have them. You are all saying if you don’t run socks you’ll get them? What are they?
