Finally Got A Big Reef Tank

Looking good - I did a massive transfer last night as well! lol

I have both glass and acrylic tanks — by far, the acrylic one is super clear and doesn’t bend light that much. Be careful on scratching the inside though — will be brutal to remove. I’ve done it on a Lagoon tank but it was dry and shallow. Can’t imagine trying to buff out yours.

Looking fwd to see how you grow out the tank. Great job on the plumbing - that looks awesome!

how was working with Tsunami? at some point I want to finish out an old basement into a man cave/fish room.
now way i could get a large glass tank down there. my 200 peninsula was a beats just to get in the house. so kinda thinking maybe acrylic?? IDK still looks like you needed quite the crew.

I once had a 240 acrylic from glass cages must of only been 1/2" or something as 2 guys could move it.

was just on there website looking at the 500 & 600 gallon tanks. :D dreams start some where.

anyway nice tank keep the updates coming. I want to see how you like the tank after awhile.

Hi Devaji. The guys at Tsunami are super nice. It did take a long time to get my tank but that was my fault since I changed the size of my tank two weeks after I put the order in. I also had them make me a custom sump and the cube mixing tank. Scott the owner does all the CAD drawings and is really knowledgeable.

My tank is 1” thick acrylic and has an empty weight of 580lbs. Can’t imagine how heavy a glass tank would have been.

A 500 or 600 gallon would be awesome. I would have went bigger on mine but I didn’t want to encroach on my pool table in the front room.

oh wow still 580# I guess 1" acrylic is no joke.
good to hear you had a great over all experience with them.
yes gotta keep the pool table away from the tank you never know when someone could smack it with a stray ball.

looks like I am back to DIY a tank in place. but I'll be fallowing your build.

Got these stainless steel drawer roller to make a custom control board that will slide out when doing wiring. Not totally sure if I will like it or not but I’m running out of room under the tank stand. Original plan was to put the controller board in empty space to left of tank but now the JBJ chiller will be going there.

My idea of the slide out controller board didn’t work out as planned. I failed to take into account that my WiFi signal Would not travel through the tank. I spent weeks getting connect and disconnect notices on all my hydros controllers before I came up with a new plan. I ended up building a stand alone controller cabinet to sit next to the tank closer to the WiFi router.

I made the cabinet in Spanish cedar with a mahogany top. Turned out pretty nice looking next to the tank and give a convent place to put stuff when I’m feeding.
The wires all look neat and organized from the front of the cabinet but it’s a total rats nest behind it. I always start off wiring neatly then I end up forgetting something or have to move a wire from one side to the other and the whole bundle turns into a mess. By the end I end up just being happy everything is working and give up on my desire for organized wiring.
