Fish And Wavemakers

Quick question, i have my Jebao set at 30% what’s the best setting for the fish? I finally brought home my 3 inch Puffer today. I felt like the Jebao was pushing him around too much making him swim a lot. now I have it off and he’s just hanging out at the top. Should I go ahead and turn it back on? What’s the best setting? Should I turn it off at nighttime etc or just for feeding?

While there is no comfort zone for a powerhead, moderate flow is a general term, and fish should not be struggling to get through current not getting blown around the tank

Hmm I have a 65 Galloon, I have the wave maker on 30% seems to be the lowest. It does seem like it pushes him around a lot, but when I turn it off there is not enough movement. Does it matter the placement, I have it up higher on the tank as it was blowing my LS around. I notice the Puffer likes it up at the top mostly, wondering if I should put the wave maker lower in the tank then. Right now I have it about 4 or 5 inches from the top. If he swims right in front of it he gets pushed away.

Also does anyone have settings they recommend? Sine, Random, etc? Whats best for the fish.

your fish is brand new, out of the store, where it was just likely just being static because they usually dont have much flow in their tank. My opinion is give him a chance to get accustomed to some flow and crank it up slowly, over the days. Exercise is good for healthy fishes.

BTW this is only his home for a couple of years, he is my plan to upgrade to my 180.

The controller sucks, why can I only slow it to 30% not down to 5 etc. Programming the thing sucks, any other controller recommended for this one except for the one mentioned that is no longer made?

Eh. 1st day and night? Ur fish is acclimating to the tank. It will be a strengthen up as the time goes on and will be swimming around hopefully in no time. U can turn em and down and back up to where they were in a cpl days or so.

I’m finding the controller really sucks wish the phone app had more settings.

If you can only get it down to 30% and it's bothering the fish, angle it up and towards the side. Breaking the surface and bouncing off the glass should take some of the force out of the flow and aid gas exchange.

Odds are the Puffer is just getting acclimated to the new system, and likely isn't used to much flow. Gradually increase it over time and you should be fine.

All has been good for the last three weeks. My levels are actually amonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10.

Starting to see some algae though should I cut the lights off for a few days?
