Sadly I think the smaller of my Clownfish pair died…I’m fairly certain it was just fine earlier this afternoon but definitely last night. All parameters are normal, and I can’t figure out for the life of me what happened. It’s nowhere to be found outside of the tank, nor inside. No spike in ammonia recorded, no strange parameter swings.

I’m wondering if maybe it wasn’t getting enough food & I didn’t notice? I feed all my fish at least once a day, usually 2-3x.

My conclusion right now is that it died and my CUC took care of it before I saw the evidence…I have 3 or 4 Nassarius, 4 blue leg hermits, a much bigger Halloween hermit and 3 peppermint shrimp.

Is it possible that one of the shrimp killed it? It doesn’t make any sense to me that it “just died” and I’m thoroughly puzzled.

FWIW I also added Galaxy Pods from AlgaeBarn yesterday evening.

How big is the tank?
Clowns have a tendency to kill their mates, so that’s definitely a possibility. None of the inverts would kill it, but would easily clean it up without you ever noticing.

Hmm.. I’d never heard that before but the female was definitely the alpha so it makes sense. It’s only a 10 gallon tank

It likely died and the flow pushed it under a rock somewhere. A tank picture might help produce some more idea's.

10 is certainly small enough for clowns to easily kill each other. They will do it in much larger tanks, but the smaller it is the less the male can get away.
