LFS sold him to me as a xanthopterus. After taking DT fallow (TLDR:always observe after quarantine) I noticed what appears to be a horseshoe. After obsessing for way too long on what this guy is or isn’t I’ve decided to bring it to the forum. Any thoughts and thanks in advance.

Looks like you’ve got a Black Shoulder Tang, Acanthurus nigricauda

Either young lieutenant tang or black shoulder but need brighter lighting to clearly see

I never considered a black shoulder. Here’s a video. I’ll try to get him in the light today.

Hope you've got a LARGE tank. LiveAquaria says 250 gal, and gets to 1'4"
Live Aquaria also posts max size in the wild, not captive.

The Vlamngii here was a little over a foot until I lost him and most others due to a power outage while on vacation in June.
