I need help identifying this fish I can get better pictures once the lights turn on, but I was told he is a V tail grouper not really looking like one to me. He was labeled orange grouper at a LFS I buy plenty of fish from but I’m not sure he is even a grouper lol. Please let me know if anyone has an idea, I was thinking a type of squirrel fish but I’m not sure maybe he is a grouper very small still about 3”

looks like an anthias to me?
That’s what we were thinking but he doesn’t act like any Anthias I have seen. He eats like a grouper but acts like a squirrel fish or soldier fish but doesn’t look like any I have seen. I’m stumped right now he was labeled as a grouper but doesn’t have that grouper head or jaw.

From the picture looks like a juvenile graysby grouper from the south atlantic. Good luck!

well anthias and groupers are in the same family, serranidae, so they should share some similarities. although idk if any anthias go about eating other fish :p

@eatbreakfast would know!
I figured out what type of fish it is finally after searching and searching. It is a Creole Fish ( Paranthias Furcifer) a sub family of the grouper and anthias. Thank you for your help it was definitely interesting igniting out this fish lol.
