Got this guy about 3 weeks ago from LFS. Tought i seen a spot on him a week or so ago but disappeared. Noticed this spot on him again today. Ich? Water parameters are good and he eats great. Should I medicate or just monitor?
You've had him for three weeks already? What have you treated him for/with during that time? Has he displayed any other symptoms? Scratching/flashing, heavy breathing, lack of appetite?
Ok. So what I would suggest is keeping him in QT for a bit longer. Just one spot isn't enough to tempt copper treatments at this point. Wait it out and see if more appear or if any other symptoms pop up. If it starts getting bigger and doesn't just fall off after a couple days then it could be Lymph which is viral and with a healthy diet and clean water will go away on it's own in time. Lymph also isn't a reason to keep him from the DT. So give him more time and see what else develops before making any decisions about treatment or DT graduation.
Symptoms - Lymphocystis appears as a white or beige colored cauliflower-like growth that usually starts on the fins and spines and sometimes spreads to the body. Initially it may be small (looks like ich), and then grows in size (which is how you know it’s not ich). Lympho is a virus that many fish carry for life. Fortunately, it is rarely fatal or even harmful to the fish, and symptoms will come and go.
Treatment options - No known cure or treatment exists. However, feeding vitamin-enriched foods and maintaining pristine water conditions may expedite the “going away” process.
