i have a fish only system with no rock of any sort or sand only the filter sponges and a skimmer. i was wondering if i can slowly start putting dried rock to the tank. i have had the fish only tank for more that 6 months. all fish are healthy but now i want to get some live corals for the tank. its a 180G tank. what is the best way to cycle the rock with out removing the fish.

Cycle the rock in a different tank or tub. A Rubbermaid tub would work fine. Heat and areate the tub throughout the cycle and then add rock. If you cycle it in the tank, any die off and resulting ammonia could be deadly to your fish.
