Fish that don't jump

i don't know if i want clowns too aggressive and not really a fan of them and it says the goby i want needs very peaceful tank mates

Is the goby you want a yasha?
I have mine in a “semi-aggressive” tank (4 other gobies, 2 wrasses and a blenny).

Yasha along with most gobies are prone to jumping.
I’d second that clown is probably the safest bet for a 13.5. But they also can jump.
I’d recommend getting a screen or glass lid.

I had a clown jump/squeeze through a poorly set screen lid and end up dead on the screen (grimace)

agree any species will spook and have lost tail spots while my backwashes turned while doing maintenance

A pink streak would do great in that size tank IMO. They remain small, aren’t extremely active and are great for pests. Definitely a good call for a pest eater that’s better than a damsel and actually not too well heard of.

Agreed on the Pink Streak - would be an awesome addition. I feel like the only issue is actually finding them in stores!

They probably can, but the issue is it might take a while for them to actually get it.

All saltwater fish will jump. Instinctively, they think that they are caught in a shallow tide pool and will jump to try to get to deeper water. Again, there are no fish that won’t jump eventually (there may be individuals, and some species may be more likely, but every species we keep can and will jump on a long enough timeline).

the first was about £25 a year ago and the second was £35 so they’re moderately priced in terms of wrasses similar to their size.

setting up a fluval evo 13.5 in a few months and want some fish that wont jump out wont have a lid on it as upgrading the light

so far the only fish i have seen is the Hi Fin Clown Goby (Stonogobiops yasha)

All fish will jump some the time and some fish will jump all of the time. The odds of this happening is proportional to how attached your kids are to the fish (grin).

I never trust any fish not to jump. I once had a box fish try to jump out…it got stuck exactly on the tank rim and couldn’t wriggle back into the tank.

its acrylic not too bad as a acrylic lid for my bigger tank costs £250 i don't have 1 though just a net lid but yea come to think of of £64 for abit of plastic is pretty pricy

Why take the risk with any fish, when you can just get a lid / screen top and do all you can to minimize the risk? I never got the “aesthetic” appeal of lid-less tanks. The tank itself is only a vessel to hold water and the livestock in it, whatever “aesthetic” appeal related to the tank itself isn’t a focal point, not for me at least.

What I will say is I’m a fan of rectangular tanks in general, and really dislike decorations or fake corals.
