Fish was lost... Found in overflow..!

Woke up this morning and one of my small clowns was missing (1.5"). He somehow squeezed through the teeth of the overflow. That was not fun fishing him out from behind the tank. What can I do to prevent this in the future? Note, I have a screen on the whole tank + overflow, 1/4".
