Orange Tail Damsel Help

I recently added and orange tail damsel to my tank. He will have been in there for a week on Saturday. I was not aware of how aggressive they could be until recently. I noticed him chasing my clowns around during feeding time and my firefish has moved her cave to the other side of the tank. I think he is gorgeous and would love to keep him but this morning I noticed the firefish’s tail has some rips and tears and I have watched him aggressively chase her in her new territory. He tends to like the right side of the tank but honestly patrols the whole front and back. Will this get better or do I need to rehome him?

Yes they are beautiful. I had one decades ago in the top two most aggressive fish I ever owned, seemed to take pleasure in killing any and all fish. When I got back in the hobby I was happy to not see them being sold again. You’re the first I’ve come across that has one. Fish are individuals but if it’s like mine save yourself a headache and return it. You can get a yellow tailed damsel, mine have been model citizen. Sorry for the bad news.

Thanks for the advice! Now I just have to catch him haha. I had never seen one before and thought he was beautiful, but I definitely do my research before buying. I was worried someone else would buy him. Lesson learned!

Ya, I get that. I had it back in the primitive times, not much info on anything and bought by what I thought was beautiful. That being said thy are the best looking damsel in my opinion. To bad they serial killing psychopaths.

Damsels are horrible in smaller tanks, even up to a 90 gallon. I had to catch mine when I first started and returned them. Too aggressive and territorial.

I've had some Damsels (Three/Four Stripe; Domino!) cause trouble in a 150. But we do have a Yellow Tail at the office in a 24, with no problems. But any with a bad reputation for aggression probably have it for a reason. Think "Neon Velvet Damsel"
