Fish you wish you never added?

Engineer Goby, hands down. I was so glad to get him out of my tank. He toppled more rocks from digging under them I can't believe he never crushed himself. He would dig a hole, I would fill it in and the next day it was back. This game went on for over a year until I finally had enough. I got lucky and was able to catch him without having to tear anything out of the tank. I gave him to LFS just to get him out of my tank.

I came close to buying one of these guys from my LFS. Glad I didn't, as I read they get pretty big. That was my turning point on the decision to research my fish before I did an impulse buy

6 line wrasse have had him for 3 years was told he was a good friendly reef fish and to a certain extend yes unless I try to add anything new be it fish snails etc even if I try to slip them in at night the next day he knows & goes on a killing spree if I didn't have 175 lbs of rock to move he would be a gonner by now

Could that be marine velvet? I've read that people can easily mistake the two. If I got one of those fish I would have to keep the display tank fishless for 12 week to kill any existing ich and the keep the tang in a hypo tank for the same amount of time to eliminate any possibilities for the tang picking up ich.

6line wrasses attacked everything added after him i think he died in the sump i have not seen him in quite some time
snowflake eel i got it for someone and they changed their mind
purple tang killed 2 snowflake clowns(its in the sump of my 180 its nice looking)
peppermint shrimp ate an acan i saw one the other day in the sump where my 6line was
pj cardinal still have it its a pita still in the tank ill get it when i take that down

Potter and Flame angels. They live together just fine and there isn't any real aggression between them, but a few of my SPS don't have any polyp extension at all anymore, especially my millis........ :( Growth is still pretty good though, just no polyps.

the one i have a problem with is my algea blenie it attacks all of my crabs and corals when i feed them and it always knocks my new frags off the rocks oh and it doesnt eat any algea lol

i had a blue/green chromis that used to terrorize my tank. Literally had to pull everything out to catch that bugger.

september 26 was my wifes birthday so i bought her a pink dottyback that shewanted, it killed my mandarin and terrorized my whole tank. i will never buy another dottyback. they look nice but too aggressive.

long nose hawkfish, awesome fish BUT perches on every &@!&#& frag i put in there. irritates the heck out of em. 2 golden dwarf morays. swim around like crazy when trying to feed my lps with the lights off and always sweeps away the food from my chalices/acans/lobos/favias/ GRRRRR!!

first thing i got before i started reefing was an octopus, needless to say he was probably the worst to get out because he could zoom across the tank and when he grabbed u it felt like a grown man lol and when i finally was getting him out of the water he shot water at my eyes like 3 times.. ive never had a problem with my six lined every now and then he chases around my nemo but nemo is a lil ***** himself always biting me as soon as i put my hand in the tank. my new problem is the randalls pistol, lol he likes reconstruction... so ill probably will be removing everything to get him out this week..

Wow, I also am suprised about the six line issues, have had several specimens and all have been model citizens, my purple tang on the other hand.. He leaves the clownfish and all the original tank mate alone, I just cannot add anything even close to resembling him, but i knew that going into it. The fish I most regret adding was a bi-color blenny in my old 75, he developed a taste for coral and was a bugger ot get out.

I too am surprised about the sixline wrasses, I've had one since I started my first tank and he has never bothered anyone...minds his own business constantly inspecting the rocks. I've never even seen him attempt to fight anyone. My new dottyback killed one of the two royal grammas I a recently added, I assume since I saw him chasing it the first night and haven't seem it since. Also, my coral beauty can be a royal PIA every once and a while when he decides to remind everyone who is the baddest fish in the tank.

Red Sea Cleaner Wrasse (Larabicus quadrilineatus)

I was sold this by a LFS about 2 years ago. They told me it was just a regular cleaner wrasse but more colorful with the electric blue stripes. I wanted to add a cleaner wrasse so I figured get the most colorful one I could find. It was fine for about two months and then one day my millepora had no polyp extension anymore. I tested all my parameters did a water change, ran carbon, but nothing. I was sitting there one day staring at my tank and thinking what could be wrong and then out comes the Red Sea cleaner wrasse from behind the rocks and BAM! starts nipping at the millepora, not once but sitting there for a couple minutes like it's a buffet. It took me two days but I got it out after removing half the rock. Apparently these act like a regular cleaner wrasse as a juvenile but as adults they FEED ALMOST ENTIRELY ON THE POLYPS OF STONY CORAL!!! Lesson learned. Always, always, always research yourself what you put in your tank. NEVER go solely on the word of another reefer or lfs.

Wow Paul, thats crazy. I have a cleaner wrasse in my tank, and I hope he's not a Rea Sea. I just got him from my LFS, so I'm gonna have to start looking for the differences online and hope mine doesn't turn out to be one. Thanks for the great information, as I've never heard of that.

sixline wrasse over here too. Couldn't add anything else except other aggressive fish. Now they respect each other pretty well.

Wow Paul, thats crazy. I have a cleaner wrasse in my tank, and I hope he's not a Rea Sea. I just got him from my LFS, so I'm gonna have to start looking for the differences online and hope mine doesn't turn out to be one. Thanks for the great information, as I've never heard of that.

They even have it listed as "reef safe" lol.

But on this site they list as "reef compatible: with caution" Maybe as long as you don't have sps.
