So, i recently upgraded my RODI system with a 3 stage di. Cation-Anion-mixed bed. Yesterday I emptied my nsw container and cleaned it out. I refilled it overnight and today it smells very fishy and has an almost foamy layer on top. No salt was added. Also, my cation hasn't changed color at all, but the anion and mixed are both completely changed. My tds in to the mixed bed is 3 and out of it is 2. Im going to change the anion and mixed, but is it normal for the cation to outlast the anion?

Most likely, I think something got spilled into your mixing container at some point.
or there was something in the container left over from cleaning it? soap makes foam.... what did you use to clean the container? any cleaning products?

not sure what the fishy smell would be from though if this is fresh RO/DI with no salt or anything added, which again leads me to think something must have been in the container, or spilled in while filling with new RO/DI.

You didn't happen to clean your skimmer at the same time? fishy smell and foam? sounds like someone spilled skimmate in your barrel lol.

Did you rinse all of your new RO/DI filters before putting into use?

When you had the container out for cleaning, is it possible one of your supply/feed lines was contaminated with something while being disconnected?

just throwing some ideas out there.

Regardless, I'd dump it, rinse your container really good and try again...
