I have a new flaming prawn goby, is sand required? I have an area of sump refugium with sand and another area with no sand which is the skimmer chamber and he likes to always go there and hide under the skimmer lol. Also are there any types of pellets that they like? I have frozen baby brine but I'm not sure if it's eating it. Any other advice would be appreciated, thanks!

I can’t help with the question but I can bump the thread to see if we can get you some help

Why is he in the sump?
Also I find sand is a necessity when it comes to this species. Their food is more so from the sand over the rocks as these guys stay closer to the lower rocks (Hiding in the crevices of the rocks). I also saw that mine used the sand to line the crevices in the rockwork although I still can’t figure out exactly why other than a couple of theories.

I recently bought two and have them alone in my 25 cube WITH sand. 1) They are super tiny and I see 1 or the other sometime every 2-14 days 2) Since they do like to hide they are mostly under the rock on sand and Like what I cant think said I'm like confident it gets all its food or most from the sand bed. I feel that without sand it may be hard to get it the nutrients. Also I cant firmly say that this exact goby does need sand however, I have kept a white cap goby without sand for a week and it just seemed to always be panicked until I added sand. Sand is just a must have I feel for most gobies.
