LOL! Thanks man. :) It's worth a shot, any way. If not, I'm more than willing to replumb the whole she-banga-bang to make it work more effectively. I've been thinking of doing that any way. I need more unions, any way.

Here's some quick pics from last night and this morning:

Added some more water.

Cheap and effective... will build a box later.

IMG_20130509_213057_854_zps9e5652ba.jpg

Cheap and on hand. :) Will replumb later with PVC and locline.

As of this morning...

Justin/Avast emailed me with the tracking number and my skimmer should be here on Tuesday. Looking forward to putting it together! It says that it'll take a couple hours with the CS1 user manual (all they have right now). So, the way I work, probably 4 hours. :D

Dang, who needs a skimmer when you have an algae ball like that sucking out the nutrients! :)

Kinda' crazy all that chaeto was behind the rocks in the 'fuge. LOL! I've been running skimmerless for a more than a few days now... No issues. Nitrates undetectable and phosphates are undetectable as well. It's doing something!

LOL! It's going bye bye soon, Ben. :)

So, I got the Avast CS3 skimmer yesterday and here are some pics from my phone:

IMG_20130514_162224_647_zps4f456772.jpg

On the front step when I got home.

IMG_20130514_165711_340_zps11bbbb62.jpg

Came with a little logo'd towel to wipe up any smudges on the acrylic as you work. :) Nice touch.

IMG_20130514_165727_231_zps9bd852df.jpg

The other side of the towel. I wonder if they sponsor R2R? LOL!

IMG_20130514_170121_931_zps934d3c1e.jpg

The damage on the pump. That whole piece is just there for looks so I'm not sweating it.

IMG_20130514_170131_379_zps09de35e6.jpg

Another angle of the pump's busted piece.

IMG_20130514_172702_368_zpsee9ea7bd.jpg

Took it all out to the garage because my wife was on the way home. ;)

IMG_20130514_172714_682_zps85fefec9.jpg

The only part of this thing that I didn't like, but I understand. A solid cone of this size would have been quite pricey to add to this kit. This, I'm sure, kept the costs down.

IMG_20130514_172722_881_zps7f4979c9.jpg

Some more of the parts. Solid stuff...

IMG_20130514_172729_801_zpsa8c94f0a.jpg

More parts, stickers and the glue. I was going to use my Weld-On, but that would defeat the purpose of seeing how easy these things are to put together, out of the box. :)

That's all I got for now... More coming soon!

Here's some more pictures I clicked off today. I had an AC repair guy stop by today for maintenance, and had to drive home for a bit. Got to goof with the skimmer a little.

IMG_20130515_130021_475_zps67add409.jpg

This is the skimmer upside down, with the pumps just put in place.

IMG_20130515_130033_533_zpsa016daec.jpg

Here's a closer shot of the how the pumps are plumbed in. The PSK 1000 is about half the size of an Askoll/Laguna/Maxjet 1500, for reference sake. They fit in the palm of your hand.

IMG_20130515_131114_033_zpsc360c211.jpg

Here's how it will sit in the tank.

IMG_20130515_131125_978_zpsf312c589.jpg

IMG_20130515_131133_566_zpsaeda213d.jpg

IMG_20130515_131149_694_zps63062a52.jpg

The clear hose that's hanging off the stand will go into a Maxi-Jet feed pump.

IMG_20130515_131203_051_zps29220a06.jpg

And here's the only real problem I had with the assembly. These "pegs" don't fit into the custom base plate for them. See how they sit on top like that? They should be slid into that "wrech shaped" piece of acrylic, on all four sides. I tried sanding them a bit, but it's going to take more than a light sanding to make them fit. This is really a non-issue though. I can do a number of things to make it work. I guess the point in showing this is to show that there is a bit of a problem with these, but it's nothing that should impair operation. I'll likely leave it as it is. It's pretty sturdy with just the "pegs."

That's about it for now. :)

Thanks bro! Yeah, it was a fun little 2 day project. :) Just got it up and running, and it's remarkably quiet for what you're getting. :)

I'm planning on ditching the chaeto and sticking with feather caulerpa. I put all of it down in the sump for now.

One of the house's AC units (the main one) was leaking from the pan. Had to get the pan replaced, and had float switch sensors installed. Pretty easy, and a non-issue, really.

That's a sweet looking skimmer! The towel is awesome too!

It was quite a shock really! It came in pretty handy, as well. LOL!

Ha! Well, he must be phenomenally intelligent and good looking! ;) LOL!

Here's a video I just did. Just woke up and got bored. :)

Oh yeah, bro! It's broken in "NICE" now! I'll get the gate valve set tonight, and try to get another video up of it actually doing something. :D It skims extremely well. I'm a bit surprised, to be honest with you.

LOL! Not even close to being a guru at them, man. I just like fiddling with them. At one time it was to figure out what all the hype was. Now, I just like to mess with them. :D

In other news, the skimmer has developed a very nice foam column now. I should be able to post a decent video of it soon.

The bubbles shoot up the neck a bit quicker than I'm used-to... Don't know if that's a thing I can fix or not. I'm sure some might like that but not me. I like the top of the foam head to consistently "boil" slowly. It could still be me... I'm sure I'll know more soon.

I don't know if its me but seems like there is turbulence in the skimmer body it looks like bubbles near the top of the skimmer is rotating around. If so I think you need to lower the water level inside the skimmer in my opinion to cut down the rotation

No, that's not occurring, kuya. I'm going to post a video tonight of how it looks now. It's not "that" bad, but I'm not used to seeing the bubbles shooting up this fast. Don't really know if that's a bad thing though, as I've never had my skimmer at eye level before. :D

I may drop the water level another inch or two any way... I've already dropped it 4". No way this thing would work well in stock fashion...
