Window AC units have two watt ratings: starting wattage and running wattage. Starting wattage is higher because as the machine starts up and the motor begins to turn, amperage spikes as the motor draws higher current to overcome inertia and starting friction. A typical starting wattage for a window unit is 2200. Once the motor is running steadily, the amperage drops and the wattage usually is around 1500. Your unit may have different ratings. Examine the nameplate or the specifications in the manual to determine how much power your AC unit uses.

I got my numbers all wrong. It is a 900w generator and the AC unit is 550w so I think I'm ok.

I wish everyone well, and good luck! I am as prepared as I think I can be. I do wish my house had shutters and a whole house generator, I do have a nice generator with power inverter and the tank has a chiller, so at least it will stay cool!

Hopefully everything will be ok, if not I guess we pick up and start over again. This one may be a really bad one. I would be lying if I didn't say I was worried for my family, friends, and everyone in the path of this storm.

I hope everyone has maintained their chainsaws and have plenty of bar/chain oil and 2 cycle oil for their gas... (Mine are all Stihl saws that are used frequently so they are all ready if need be) It might be another cut your way out of your house/neighborhood situation again. Having lived through the 4 hurricanes that came through this area it's a very real possibility!

Good Luck y'all!!

I'm 20 miles from the beach just south of Jax, We always get missed and everybody is complacent about it including me ! I may have to do some Urban Camping but that's Ok . If the power is out for days I will have learned my lesson and have a good generator next season . Thank God all I have is a 75 at this time. I have a small rule bilge pump and 2 large deep cycle marine batteries in the boat. So I can run the circulation a couple of hours a day. I got plenty of beers, my neighbor got the vodka, I have about 7 gallon jugs of ro water frozen and 3 40 gl cans full of water as well ! I'm as ready as I can be. Good Luck to Y'all down south tomorrow. We will get it Friday.

I am going to get screwed in this one... I might loose everything if it stays on the current track, if not by the wind it will be by the flooding.... :(:(:(:(:(:mad:
:(
You on mandatory evacuation?

Yes.
But like a dumb A**, I have chosen to ride it out and try to make sure I can save as many things as possible if something should go terribly wrong. I live right in the path of this storm and I plan on taking go pro footage the entire time.. I am a thrill seeker anyhow so I figured I would try to add this one to my resume of crazy stunts... Wish me luck...

Be careful!!!!
Watching news now and seems we should start seeing the 1st feeder band down here in Broward in about 30-45 minutes!

Hope the best for everyone on the East coast. I'm in Tampa and still pulled out the old generator just in case. Best of luck to everyone who plans to ride it out.
Looks like you all may see some tropical force winds over there.

Hoping you all stay safe during this storm, looks like it could get rough. I have family in northern Fla., looks like they will be ok. Stay inside and stay safe and may the reefing gods smile on you all, good luck.
